Sylvanas Windrunner

Sister of Vereesa Windrunner and Alleria Windrunner.

The one-time leader of the Ranger Corps of Silvermoon, charged with protecting the city from the Forest Troll uprisings of the time. She was then the Ranger Sylvanas. When the Death Knight Death Knight Arthas came to Silvermoon in search of the Sunwell in order to harness it's power to resurrect the Necromancer Kel'thuzad, Sylvanas defended the city to the last; fighting Arthas at the Outer Elfgate, then later at the Inner Elfgate, but failing at both bottlenecks. She would call on nature to destroy a key bridge.

This did not stop the Undead Scourge forces, but buying her forces precious time. She attempted at that point to warn the city and summon reinforcements, but Arthas's forces intercepted her runner. In a last-ditch effort, Sylvanas challenged Arthas's forces directly, but the Death Knight's power had grown too much. He slew her, but he had been so irked by the Elven Ranger's interference that he deemed death a fate to easy for her. He rose her from the dead as a Banshee.

She was then the Banshee Sylvanas. He would regret that decision. She possessed the body of another Elven Ranger, and sought out the remaining Dreadlords in Lordaeron: Balnazzar, Detheroc and Varimathras. She was then the Dark Ranger Sylvanas. Together they devised a plan whereby the Dark Ranger would paralyse the Death Knight with a special arrow and destroy him. She was thwarted, however, by the Necromancer Kel'thuzad.

Later, with the Dreadlords turned against her, she fought valiantly against them. She fought Varimathras' forces to nothing and spared his life so that she might use him to conquer the other two Dreadlords, and she did so with little effort. With the Dreadlord Varimathras and her own Undead forces, she declared herself an independent faction aptly named "The Forsaken". She was then the Dark Lady Sylvanas, leader of the Forsaken.
