Mounts
All players are able to learn how to ride a mount on reaching level 40, then they can increase their skill at level 60, and again at level 70. Below are the costs associated with riding training and purchasing mounts.
An important point to note is that reputation with a faction can effect the cost of some training and the purchase cost of mounts:
- Friendly = 5% discount
- Honored = 10% discount
- Revered = 15% discount
- Exalted = 20% discount
The cost of actually training the riding skill is the highest cost to players; fortunately, characters have plenty of opportunity to save adequate gold whilst they level, providing they spend wisely, of course. Here are the costs of training riding:
- Apprentice Riding Skill (level 40) = 90
(depending on faction reputation)
- Journeyman Riding Skill (level 60) = 600
(depending on faction reputation)
- Expert Riding Skill (level 70) = 800
- Artisan Riding Skill (level 70, Flying Mounts) = 5000
The price of mounts vary depending on a character's reputation with the faction responsible for selling the mount:
Racial Ground Mounts
Each of the 10 races have their own racial mount and they are listed in the table below.
Flying Mounts
The Horde and Alliance have faction specific flying mounts, that all races can purchase. These mounts are available when a character reaches level 70, and are bought from vendors in Shadowmoon Valley, in Outland. Flying mounts can currently only be used in Outland.
The Alliance flying mount is the Gryphon, it can be bought from Brunn Flamebeard at the Wildhammer Stronghold in Shadowmoon Valley.

PvP Mounts
There are special mounts can be obtained only through PvP. Players still need to train to the required level of riding skill to be able to ride these mounts.
Certain mounts are only available to the character's faction, but some are available to both factions. The PvP mounts obtained from competing in battlegrounds cost the player tokens from Warsong Gulch, Arathi Basin and/or Alterac Valley.
In The Burning Crusade, Talbuks were introduced as new mounts. Players can get these by taking part in PvP in Nagrand, as well as through reputation gain with the appropriate faction in that area (the Mag'har for the Horde and the Kurenai for the Alliance).
The table below shows all the PvP mounts currently available:
