Daily Quests

Fishing Daily Quests was added to the game with Patch 2.4, and provide the chance of using Fishing to gain money or a few rare items. The limit for Daily Quests was also increased, so you can easily do your Fishing Dailies as well as any other Dailies you want. There are five daily fishing quests, but only one of them is available every day. The game will randomly choose one of the quests on any given day, and that will be the quest available.

If you don't finish a quest one day, you can still turn it in the next day, but it would then count as you have used up that day's Daily Fishing Quest. This means that if you have a favourite quest active one day, when you don't have time, you can go get that quest and do it the next day. In order to get the "real" quest of the day, you have to abandon the one you are on to take "today's" quest. Further reading: Daily Quests.

Getting the Quest of the Day

The daily quest that is randomly decided from a pool of five potential are available from Old Man Barlo, whom you can find just east of Shattrath, in Terokkar Forest, west of the Silmyr Lake. The quests he offers are of lvl 70, but in theory, anyone over lvl 62 should be able to do them with good enough Fishing skill in order to fish on the given quest locations, as there is no need for a flying mount.

The only fishing skill requirement are from the quests themselves. Even a skill lvl 1 Fisherman could do the Crocolisks in the City quest, as that only requires skill 1 to fish in Stormwind or Orgrimmar.

There is no minimum fishing skill required to accept the daily fishing quests: Fishing skill 1 will allow at least the Crocolisks in the City quests to be accepted and completed. That is a huge step compared to the hardest quest, which requires 395 to even fish, and 490 to avoid chance of getaways. The other quests are between these two extremes.

This is not an event like Stranglethorn Fishing Extravaganza, though, and all fishing takes place in regular water, as opposed to looking for Schools of Fish. You also only need to catch one single fish to complete the quest (except for Shrimpin' Ain't Easy). You will most probably get your catch within the first 10 catches, but it can be a lot worse than that if you are unlucky.

The Quests

The Daily Fishing Quests:

This is the quest pool, of which one random quest is decided per day. Below you have a description of minimum Fishing skill, as well as what you are looking for. Click the fish link to a new window to get a map of where you can get the fish.

Bait Bandits

Target: [Blackfin Darter]
Location: Terokkar Forest
Fishing Skill: 355
Avoid Getaways: 450

[Blackfin Darter] cannot be caught from Silmyr Lake. The dubious quest description "You have to pull your line at the last possible second, because they nibble at the bait before they take it" seems to be false. Just do your angling as usual.

Crocolisks in the City

Target: [Baby Crocolisk]
Location: Stormwind City and Orgrimmar
Fishing Skill: 1
Avoid Getaways: 75

In Stormwind, you can catch these anywhere in the water, including the valley by the entrance (Valley of Heroes). Both Alliance and horde characters have an easy time to get to their fish, just use the portal from Shattrath.

Felblood Fillet

Target: [Monstrous Felblood Snapper]
Location: Hellfire Peninsula and Shadowmoon Valley
Fishing Skill: 280
Avoid Getaways: 375

You can find [Monstrous Felblood Snapper] on the places marked out if you click the link, but the closest source of fish in relation to Old Man Barlo is Hellfire Peninsula (Pools of Aggonar).

The "mammoth shark off the coast of Azshara" mentioned in the quest is not related to the quest (or fishing a at all, it needs to be found and killed with force).

The One That Got Away

Target: [World's Largest Mudfish]
Location: Nagrand
Fishing Skill: 395
Avoid Getaways: 490

Only caught in the big open waters of Nagrand:

  • Elemental Plateau
  • Forge Camp: Hate
  • Lake Sunspring
  • Skysong Lake

Make sure your mini-map tells you that you are at one of these locations, as it otherwise doesn't count (such as Horde players that might be standing too close to Garadar). Skysong Lake is closest to Old Man Barlo.

Shrimpin' Ain't Easy

Target: [Bloated Barbed Gill Trout], until you have 10 [Giant Freshwater Shrimp]
Location: Zangarmarsh
Fishing Skill: 305
Avoid Getaways: 400

These can be found all over Zangarmarsh, but unless you have business there, just go Southern side of Umbrafen Lake and fish there.

You'll get one or two [Giant Freshwater Shrimp] per [Bloated Barbed Gill Trout] as well as [Partially Digested Weeds]. You should probably be able to complete the quest within ten catches.

As all quest items, you'll only get [Bloated Barbed Gill Trout] as long as you have fewer than all the quest items ([Giant Freshwater Shrimp]) needed. If you fish a lot of [Bloated Barbed Gill Trout], you will only be able to loot shrimps up to your first stack of 10. The Fish also turns bad after 2 hours, so you can't hoard the fishes for future daily quests.

Rewards

All of the above quests will reward you a [Bag of Fishing Treasures], that contains around 7Image:Gold1.jpg, a common item, some junk item and on occasion a rare fishing item.
