The Dark Portal

Created by the corrupted Medivh, the Dark Portal was the means through which the Horde was able to invade Azeroth. With his vast power Medivh was able to contact Gul'dan on Draenor and the orcish warlocks of the Horde, striking a bargain for the destruction of Azeroth. It was the young sorceror that created the dimensional rift in the Human Year 583, and the warlocks of the Shadow Council that studied and expanded it until it was large enough to allow the teeming numbers of the Horde to pass through.

Located in the Black Morass of eastern Azeroth, the portal has been the subject of several unsuccessful attempts to close it. Following the Second War, Khadgar attempted to close the Portal with limited success, reducing the size to a fraction of its previous magnitude. The Kirin Tor established the Citadel of Nethergarde to guard the dangerous site. In the Human Year of 606, the Portal was mysteriously opened once again as the forces of the Bleeding Hollow Clan fled back to the world of Draenor.

Located in a part of the Black Morass that is now called the Blasted Lands, the Dark Portal is the dimensional gateway for WoW-players with the Burning Crusade expansion to great new adventures.
