Borean Tundra
This is the other entry point into Northrend. The Horde has established a large Orc base called Warsong Hold here, whereas the Alliance has a settlement named Valliance Keep.Borean Tundra is quite barren and cold compared to some other parts of Northrend, but there is still plenty going on, never the less. It shares a border with Dragonblight, the zone players will progress into after Borean Tundra.
Further inland from the coasts of this zone, players will notice more evidence of the Scourge's presence, such as the large base near Fizzcrank Airstrip, the Temple of En'Kilah. The further inland characters get, the more they will come across the Scourge.
Towns
There is a large and important Horde town called Warsong Hold in the Borean Tundra, and Horde players deciding to start questing on this side of Northrend will begin at this base. The building uses dark iron and is more aggressive than Orgrimmar, and has been referred to as the "New Look" of the Horde. Garrosh Hellscream, son of Grom, is the ruler of this base. Horde players will get to interact with Garosh right away from the moment they disembark from the zeppelin, which calls here to take players to and from Orgrimmar in Kalimdor. The Alliance starting base is Justice Keep, a large fort overlooking the cliffs. The storyline playing out there is that reserves are being called out to help in the battle against Arthas. There is the Gnome town, Fizzcrank Airstrip, and not far from there is the Scourge base, the Temple of En'Kilah
Inhabitants
There are many races that already inhabit the Borean Tundra besides the Horde and Alliance factions. The walrus-like Tuskarr, a community of fishermen creatures who are Neutral to both Horde and Alliance, and the Taunka - a branch of the Tauren race that was believed to be lost.
Another race present here is the Naga. The hostile serpents are attempting to melt the ice of the region, for reasons so far unknown to the Horde and Alliance. They must be dealt with before moving further into Northrend. The Scourge's presence seems a lot more profound here, and many can be found in and around the large base, the Temple of En'Kilah. The hostile spider race, the Nerubians are also rife in Borean Tundra.
A neutral group, D.E.H.T.A. is also based here. The Druids for the Ethical and Humane Treatment of Animals set players quests to protect the wildlife of Northrend.
The Nexus
On the island of Coldarra is a magical site, which explorers of the region have come to call The Nexus. The Nexus is made up of levitating earth-covered rings surrounding a column of magical energy. Adventurers have attributed the increased activity here to the re-emergence of the blue Dragon Aspect, Malygos, especially as this ancient site was created by the blue dragonflight. There has also been increasing tension between members of the Blue Dragonflight and the users of magic. The Nexus is the site of the starting dungeon in the Borean Tundra. Like its counterpart in Howling Fjord, Utgarde Keep, The Nexus has three instances inside the one site. The 5-man instance for players just starting out in Northrend is simply called The Nexus, though this is a little harder that Utgarde Keep's entry level instance and is aimed at level 71+ characters. There is a level 80+ 5-man instance called the Oculus, and a raid instance as well.
