Blackrock Spire
From WoW: IncGamers World of Warcraft Wiki
Blackrock Spire is a dark peak located in the Northern part of the Redridge Mountains called Burning Steppes. It was both the initial and final stronghold of the Horde during the first and second wars. The Spire served as the seat of power from which Blackhand the Destroyer, and later Orgrim Doomhammer, as well as the Blackrock Clan commanded the invasion of Azeroth.
Near the end of the Second War Anduin Lothar, Commander of the Alliance forces, was lured to Blackrock Spire under the pretence of attending a parley with the Orc War Chief, only to be ambushed and slain. The Alliance, its resolve fuelled by this treachery, eradicated all traces of the Horde at Blackrock Spire.
More recently there are a number of different inhabitants of The Spire, most notably Nefarian, a powerful black dragon and offspring of Deathwing and Ragnaros, The Fire Lord. They are in no way aligned, but both have the usual plans for world domination as aspiring poweful entities. Around two years ago, bands of powerful Alliance and Horde heroes have ventured into the Spire and defeated them both. Whether Ragnaros might be able to again rise from his fiery grave is unknown, but Nefarian will most probably stay dead, unless ressurrected as a Frost Wyrm by Arthas himself.
The Spire has been left much to its own accord after these events, and if new dangerous masters are emerging, or if the Dark Iron Dwarves will gain new resolve with their leader/tormentor of Ragnaros gone is unknown. It is however, highly likely that this is not the last we hear about the dark spire on the borders between the Kingdowm of Stormwind and Khaz Modan.
