Alterac was one of the six human kingdoms to join the Alliance during the Second War. Ruled by Lord Perenolde, Alterac was the weakest kingdom of the Alliance and a relatively small contributor of soldiers and supplies.

Fearing for his kingdom should the Alliance fail, Perenolde collaborated with the Horde, supplying them with information in exchange for the survival of the kingdom. The combined might of the Alliance turned its wrath upon the small kingdom, ruthlessly crushing it as punishment for Perenolde's treachery.

It is today in ruins, and where the main capital of Alterac once stood, there is no only Ogres and Yeti occupying the area.

There is one of the valleys that has become a focal point of conflict for the Horde and Alliance. The infamous Alterac Valley is a constant battleground between Alliance and Horce forces in the otherwise relatively calm conflict between the factions.
