The Cost of Rolling a Death Knight

The current number of characters players can have on one server is 10. Some of us who have been playing WoW for a while might have at least one of each class and a bank character on a server, which adds up to 10, so what will happen when the Death Knight becomes available? Do we delete a character, or pay to move one to another realm? We've never had a straight answer from Blizzard in the past over this, they've always hinted it was too early to say one way or another, but today EU Community Manager Vaneras answered the question once again, and it's not looking good for those of us who are fond of our alts:

Why can't you use one of the alts as a bank alt?
Seems to me to be a simple solution. Surely you don't have eight actively played 70's?

I expect some people can, but I personally couldn't. My alts all have full banks, and my bank character has a full bank, as well as 2 slots in his own guild bank taken up. Am I the only one stuck like this?

Actually, I tend to shuffle between characters a lot. Several aren't 70, and it strongly depends on my mood -- each character I have is played differently, and I don't just mean mechanically, I mean the role I have for them is a little different, and I have to be in the right mood to play a particular character.
What I'm looking at is moving one of my hunters to a different server (since I have two), and then maybe shuffling around some of my lower-level characters, and making my Death Knight.

Wow...so, you have 100(?) or more slots on each of TEN characters filled, plus two filled guild bank tabs, and use all of the stuff routinely?
Or, you just have them filled, and do nothing much with all but 50 slots or so.

So... find a trustworthy friend who dosen't have 10 guys, have him hold all the stuff on one alt, delete that alt, make death knight, transfer all items to death knight. Problem solved.
Alternatively, mail all the stuff on bank to your main, delete that bank, make death knight, mail all the stuff back.

Not that I'm planning on rolling a DK right away but I like to keep my banks and inventory rather clean on all my chars, including alts. Do you really need 2 stacks of peacebloom past lvl 20? Sure things stack up but every once in a while, things need cleaned out/sold/passed to another char that can use it... like a spring cleaning or something.
A friend of mine is a full bank with all bank slot bought (I don't use any more than 2 per char) and I'm curious why he saves all the stuff he does. As a lvl 70 with 370 Blacksmithing, why have 5 stacks of copper ore? Anyone offering crafting serverices requires the other person's mats anyway so whats the point?

So that if he ever has need of copper, for example a new tradeskill on an alt, to make something for a freind or whatever, he can do it withoyt having to farm or buy at exhorbiont AH prices.

lol. I've been playing.... since launch (and have the [item]Diablo Stone[/item], [item]Panda Collar[/item], or [item]Zergling Leash[/item] to prove it). My current roster includes 4 70's, my lowest-level character is 25... and it's been probably 6 months since I touched him.

I'm actually playing Devil's Advocate here a bit; In fact, I moved 2 of my 70s across to a 2nd account so that I could level my own alts, so I do actually have a couple of spaces free on my main server atm, but before I did that I would have been in the situation I mentioned earlier.
I know there is probably a way to work around it, like moving all your stuff to another character or characters, deleting the bank char then making a DK, but then his bank would be full with all the stuff I've got saved up. Surely it wouldn't be too hard for Blizz to add another couple of slots onto the number of chars we're allowed on each server?

I'm working on the fifth 70 atm....a warrior....Go figure.
But, I am far from having a totally filled up bank slot issue. I only keep things I can presently use, or things that I have a reasonable expectation of using in the next few months.

I don't think this is very "forward thinking" of Blizzard, apart from the obvious financial aspect for them. Blizzard's attitude on this seems to be, "either delete a character or pay us to move a character to another realm"! So what happens when they add the next new class? Or another new class after that? Personally I think they'd do better by increasing the number of characters allowed per realm to, 15? (to allow for future new classes), but lower the total number of characters per account. But, it's still early days yet, time will tell what will happen over this particular issue!

Current spec is that their DB design doesn't easily allow for this, if at all. Xlorep has given some examples of stuff like this (based upon work that his company does), in one of the previous discussion threads about this issue.

I got lucky and made my bank alt GM of my old guild. She’s now the sole member and has access to 3 guild bank slots and her normal full bank slots.
Half the time I forget what items I have, only the other day I found 3 Primal Might, 60 Planar Essence and 2 Earthstorm Diamonds hiding in there.
I’ve just moved my Hunter to another realm and that slot on my main realm is now going to be kept empty.
