Mount Enchants! - 2.4.2 Undocumented Changes
24/04 UPDATE:
- A new Epic version of the PvP Trinket [item type="preload"]Medallion of the Alliance[/item] has appeared for sale on the Alliance vendor in Stormwind. There's no price on the tooltip, but it costs 40k honor. As yet, there is no Horde equivalent, but there is sure to be one later. See the new item details here.
- [item type="preload"]Renataki's Charm of Trickery[/item] has had its stats changed, see the new stats here.
- [item type="preload"]Luminous Bluetail[/item] are now only available through catching [item type="preload"]Bloated Giant Sunfish[/item]
- A new tabbard has been added to the game
- The Epic gems being sold by Shaani still cost 15 [item type="preload"]Badge of Justice[/item], as opposed to 10 as shown on the official Armory. This indicates the figure on the armory is sadly incorrect.
- The daily quest for the Shattered Sun Offensive, "The Multiphase Survey", no longer rewards players with a [item type="preload"]Shattered Sun Supplies[/item].
- [item type="preload"]Naturalist's Preserving Cinch[/item] has has its stats changes, see the new stats here.
- [item type="preload"]Borderland Fortress Grips[/item] has had it's stats changed, see the new stats here.
UPDATE:
Items now live, and the Purified Shadowsong Amethyst got its stats. The new items seems to be that, NEW, not replacing the old ones.
According to the game files from the PTR client, we can see that there are a lot of changes and new items that haven't been announced. This means that these new changes may or may not appear in the next patch. Either way, there's some cool stuff in here. Naturally, there is no way to see any actual items, as that would require being logged on to the PTRs, but the datafiles from the PTR patch contains spell tooltips, icons and models! Just because they appear in the PTR files does not mean they will appear in the PTR or in the game though! You can check out the Patch Notes and the list of what is hidden in the PTR client:
Classes
- [spell]Aspect of the Viper[/spell] New Tooltip:
The hunter takes on the aspects of a viper, regenerating mana equal to up to 55% of his or her Intellect plus 35% of his or her level every 5 sec. The lower the hunter's current mana, the more mana will be regenerated. Only one Aspect can be active at a time. (+24.5 MP5 @ lvl 70)
- Teleport/Portals
Spell graphics, including effects and spell icons was added in the 2.4 patch for teleporting and portalling to Stonard and Theramore, and the actual spells added on the PTR client. It's unsure if it will be available, but seeing as it contains both the teleport and portal aspects of the spells, we can guess it's new Mage spells. If you can get them at a trainer or through a quest is something we'll get back to you on!- Teleport: Stonard: "Teleports the caster to Stonard."
- Teleport: Theramore: "Teleports the caster to Theramore."
- Portal: Stonard: "Creates a portal, teleporting group members that use it to Stonard."
- Portal: Theramore: "Creates a portal, teleporting group members that use it to Theramore."

- From 14 [item type="preload"]Primal Earth[/item], to: 4
Mounts
There are four new spells that are used with the use of mounts (ie: summoning them). This doesn't mean that the mounts will be used as spells, they are probably a "Use" effect of an item, like most mounts are.
- Headless Horseman's Mount
The models for the Headless Horseman mount has been in the game for some time, but these spells are of course new. The two different summonings seems to indicate a flying and a normal mount. As there is only one "Use" spell (look below), it probably means that one item will automatically use the flying version in Outland and the ground version on Azeroth.- Use Headless Horseman's Reins - The item "Use" spell
- Headless Horseman's Mount: "Summons and dismisses a rideable Headless Horseman's Mount." - Flying mount
- Headless Horseman's Mount, Ground: "Summons and dismisses a rideable Headless Horseman's Mount." - Normal mount
- Swift Zebra
Possibly renamed to "Swift Zevhra" when they realize that there are no zebras in WoW?- Swift Zebra: "Summons and dismisses a rideable Swift Zebra. This is a very fast mount."
Items
Again, there is no way of seeing these changes in WoWDigger or similar databases yet, but "Use" and "Chance on hit" effects can be found out through the client. There is a significant change to how trinkets that increase mount speed work. They now work like a permanent enchantment to your mount.
- [item type="preload"]Hazza'rah's Charm of Healing[/item] - Lowered Spell Haste Rating from 400 to 70 spell haste rating. Other component unchanged (reduces the mana cost of your healing spells by 5% for 15 seconds).
- Mount Enchants
- [item type="preload"]Carrot on a Stick[/item] - Two changes:
- Now Craftable: 1 [item type="preload"]Simple Wood[/item], 1 [item type="preload"]Fine thread[/item] and 1 [item type="preload"]Golden Sansam[/item].
- "Permanently enchant a mount to increase its mounted speed by 3%. You may only enchant mounts in your own inventory, and enchanting your mount will cause it to become soulbound. Single use."
- [item type="preload"]Charm of Swift Flight[/item]: "Equip: Reduces the mana cost of Flight Form and Swift Flight Form by 115."
- Crow Speed (New item?): "Increases speed in Flight Form and Swift Flight Form by 10%."
- [item type="preload"]Riding Crop[/item]: "Permanently enchant a mount to increase its mounted speed by 10%. You may only enchant mounts in your own inventory, and enchanting your mount will cause it to become soulbound. Single use."
- [item type="preload"]Skybreaker Whip[/item]: "Permanently enchant a mount to increase its mounted speed by 10%. You may only enchant mounts in your own inventory, and enchanting your mount will cause it to become soulbound. Single use."
- [item type="preload"]Carrot on a Stick[/item] - Two changes:
- [item type="preload"]Nightfall[/item] - The Spell Damage debuff will now sometimes fail on targets above lvl 60.
- [item type="preload"]Wushoolay's Charm of Nature[/item] - Lowered Spell Haste Rating from 400 to 70 spell haste rating. Other component unchanged (reduces the mana cost of Rejuvenation, Healing Touch, Regrowth, and Tranquility by 5% for 15 seconds).

The glove reinforcements buff was a very pleasant surprise. Guess they had to make it easier to skill leatherworking prior wotlk.
The mounts? Sounds like an other trading card game rewards. But new rewards shouldn't be yet this early? Or.. the deathknight's mount? Just guessing something.

Well, yes that is a nice buff. Also the change of the whips etc. Good for everyone really. No use of trinket slot, and if you want to alter between mounts, you need several, so Leatherworkers be happy.
I wonder what happens to Warlock mounts though. Seeing as they don'g have the pala aura or the like..

why would they name a trading card thing with just the names taht have been used for the riding speed trinkets so far ? i guess the trinkets will be changed into enchants. which would be great, no more equipping the trinkets every time i mount :D
and no more dismounting in fight and fighting with a riding trinket :D

If this is true, and the old trinkets will be used as permanent enchants, druids (though it pains me to say it) are getting another buff. It's a slight advantage, but an advantage nonetheless.
I mean, if a druid decides to get a new epic flying mount, it's entirely aesthetic. They only have to go through whatever it takes to get the "Crow Speed" enchant, and they're done. Because of that, I'm guessing that it will be added via tradeskill from a recipe that only drops in Heroic MT, and that it will have fairly expensive mats.
Very interesting. A good way to increase the popularity of Golden Sansam too.
By the way, I think it's a bunch of crap that the Skybreaker Whip is single use. Beating Skyshatter's a huge pain with all the lag - I wasn't able to do it until I had epic flight form. My connection always caused me to lag out somehow until I could stay close to him and survive his fireballs.
That should be worth more than a normal Riding Crop, since a Riding Crop can be purchased off of the AH for very, VERY little (comparably).

Is the carrot on a stick craftable by the cooking profession?
I like the enchantment idea for the riding crops, but what happens if you already have one? Does it automatically become an enchantment?
So what is the new tabbard?
I sold each Riding Crop whenever a character earned a Skybreaker Whip.. Now need to buy a new Crop for every mount that does not have a Whip? I don't think I like this...

I suppose ZF will be a lot less popular if that Carrot on a Stick can be crafted.

Wouldn't you only NEED to buy one if you don't want to use your Skybreaker Whip anymore?

@xmuskrat, since the recipe says one Golden Sansam, I'd guess it'd be an alchemist recipe, but could be wrong. Since it's going to become an enchantment, they could give it to enchanters too, thus making another profession needing Golden Sansam too! :)

If it works like you think (which I wouldn't bet on) I wouldn't consider it a buff. The Charm of Swift Flight is a reward from a gruelling quest chain, and would become basically worthless. Plus we would not have added speed until we get this Crow's Speed thing, while everyone else could simply use their riding crops on their mounts right away. Crow's Speed may be a one time "use" effect of the CoSF.... that would be fine, even if it consumes the item.

That it needs a herb doesn't automatically mean it'll be alchemy.. there are tailoring recipes that require leather, and there are jewelcrafting recipes that require enchanting mats.
